The Loop

Sound Familiar?

You open your DAW. You make a great 8-bar loop. Something that actually sounds good.

Then you stare at it. For an hour. Maybe two.

You duplicate the clip. Add a filter sweep. Delete it. Try a different transition. Delete that too.

Eventually you save the project as "beat_idea_47_final_v3" and close your laptop.

You know your DAW. You understand the basics. You might even know more music theory than some of your favorite artists. But you still can't turn an idea into a finished track.

So you do what everyone does. You watch another tutorial. You buy another sample pack. You tell yourself you'll figure it out eventually.

It's been months. Maybe years. And you're still stuck in the same loop. Literally.

Here's what I've seen teaching 1,000+ producers.

You've got the ideas.
You've got the ears.
You've got the hours.

What you're missing is a system.

The best producers weren't born knowing their modulators from their oscillators. They just finished more tracks.

What You'll Master Inside
The Producer's Path

With ill.Gates as your guide, you'll move through 12 weekly lessons. Each assignment builds on the last as you flex your artistic muscles and discover your voice.

The Producer's Path teaches the rules deeply enough that breaking them becomes the point. Twelve weeks of rule-knowing so you can spend the rest of your career rule-breaking.

WEEK 00 Lesson Zero: Prep & Philosophy

Everything's already set up for you. Plug in the ill.Methodology 2.0 framework, dial in your battle station, map out your 90 days. By the end of the week, you're ready to make music.

WEEK 01Flipping Sparks

Generate raw musical ideas fast. Stop overthinking your first note.

WEEK 02Telling Stories

Structure your music as narrative, not just patterns. Give your tracks a beginning, middle, and end.

WEEK 03Making Melodies

Write melodies that stick. The kind people actually hum after the track ends.

WEEK 04Mixing Dry

Solve 90% of your mixing problems before you touch a single effect. One lesson, clean ears forever. Most students say this one is worth the whole course.

WEEK 05Adding Movement

Automation, modulation, and making static sounds breathe. Turn a loop into a living thing.

WEEK 06Making Beats

Write beats people actually move to. Drums that hit, grooves that lock, rhythms that make heads nod.

WEEK 07Building Tension

Arrangement dynamics: builds, drops, transitions. The architecture that makes people feel something.

WEEK 08Chopping Samples

Turn anything into an instrument. The groove and swagger of the MPC, whether you own one or not. Flip a vocal, chop a horn stab, mangle a field recording into your next hook.

WEEK 09Generating Chaos

Happy accidents that become signature moments. The weird sounds your favorite tracks can't live without. Permission to get strange.

WEEK 10Switching Voices

Versatility across styles, timbres, and approaches. Expand what "your sound" can be.

WEEK 11Middling Around

Refining the middle sections. The part where most producers get stuck and most tracks die.

WEEK 12Finishing Songs

The final lesson. Complete tracks you're proud of. This is what the whole path has been building toward.

ill.Gates (Dylan Lane)
ill.Gates in the studio

20 years · 60+M streams · 275 tracks · 1,000+ shows

My name is ill.Gates and I'm like the opposite of a Gatekeeper. Unlocking and sharing musical secrets is what I do.

I've racked up 58 million plays on over 300 songs, including collaborations with the winners of 10 Grammys, and made music for Star Wars and GTA5. My past students and collaborators include Apashe, G Jones, Illenium, Mr. Bill, Beats Antique, Eprom, Pretty Lights, Daily Bread, and Dr Fresch. Grammy nominee Damian Taylor (producer of Bjork, The Prodigy, The Killers, and Arcade Fire) even used my Moog sub multisamples on all his Grammy-nominated albums.

I've been DJing since I was 13. Performing is what I do. What I've always done. What I will never stop doing. Music runs through my veins. It's what fuels me. 1,000+ shows on 5 continents, still slayin' it on the daily.

I also teach. Built the world's first Ableton DJ Templates in 2006. Invented 'Mudpies' in 2008. Built '128s' in 2010. Founded Producer Dojo in 2016 with one mission: launch 1,000 music careers. 300+ consecutive weeks of live classes since. No breaks. No vacations. Guest lectures at Berklee College of Music, NYU, the Ableton Education Summit, and Ableton's 'One Thing'. Over 1,000 producers trained. My 128s-style wavetables ship with Serum 2, the world's most popular synth.

I spent 20 years designing the Dojo to be the most engaging, most effective, and most efficient home base for producers. The place I wish I'd had coming up.

The Producer's Path is how you get over the learning curve, find your voice, and start making music you actually want to play for people.

I've worked with the best of the best, and I saw where the rest went astray. I studied both failure and success, tested method after method, and designed this course in collaboration with real musicians just like you.

Now it's your turn.

Qualification

Is The Producer's Path Right For You?

This IS for you if:

  • You make great loops but can't turn them into finished tracks
  • You're tired of watching tutorials that don't lead anywhere
  • You want a real system you can actually follow
  • You've got dozens of unfinished projects and zero releases
  • You're ready to commit to five minutes a day for 90 days
  • You want honest feedback from producers who are actually doing it

This is NOT for you if:

  • You're looking for a magic button that makes you famous overnight
  • You just want more loops and samples to hoard
  • You're not willing to put in the work, even five minutes a day

Despite what you may have heard: you don't need music gear or prior experience. You don't need a brand new computer or expensive software. You don't need to be born with the gift. ill.Gates wasn't, and he'll be the first to tell you. And you don't need to break the bank or commit to an endless subscription.

All you need to do is make the decision. Then show up for five minutes a day.

FAQ

Questions? We've Got Answers.

What skill level do I need to start?
Any level. Week 00 (Lesson Zero) starts with the absolute basics: setting up your DAW, building your reference playlist, preparing your workspace. If you can open a laptop and click a mouse, you can start. The supplementary Library covers everything from "Intro to Ableton" to advanced sampling. You won't be thrown into the deep end.
How much time do I need per week?
The minimum commitment is five minutes a day. That's ill.Gates's core philosophy. Realistically, most students spend 3-5 hours per week once they get into it. But the point is: start with five minutes. The habit builds the momentum. You don't need to clear your schedule.
What DAW do I need?
The course is taught in Ableton Live, and the included tools (Rack Packs, instruments, sample libraries) are Ableton-native. That said, the production principles of arrangement, mixing, and finishing apply to any DAW. If you're on FL Studio, Logic, or anything else, you'll still get massive value from the methodology and assignments. The supplementary Library includes an "Intro to Ableton" lesson if you're switching over.
What if I fall behind during the 12 weeks?
Your access to The Producer's Path never expires. The cohort sets the pace and gives you accountability, but you can revisit any lesson at any time. The private Discord community stays active between cohorts too. You're never doing this alone. And the challenges are deep enough that many students go through them multiple times as their skills progress.
Is this just more tutorials I'll never finish?
No. And honestly, that's exactly why The Producer's Path exists. It's a structured system with assignments, deadlines, and real feedback from ill.Gates, not a video library to binge and forget. Every lesson has exercises that force you to make music, not just watch someone else make it. The producers in the testimonials above had the same concern. They finished tracks for the first time in years.
Do I get 1-on-1 access to ill.Gates?
You get written feedback on your actual mixes from ill.Gates in the course Discord every week. It's not a private 1-on-1 package. ill.Gates is in the Discord. ill.Gates moderates. ill.Gates answers every week. You do get an option to purchase Sensei sessions at the end of your checkout.
What's the refund policy?
30-day money-back guarantee. Go through the course, do the work, submit your assignments. If you aren't proud of what you made, you get a refund. No phone calls, no hassle. ill.Gates's words: "Who else offers anything like that?"
I make [specific genre]. Will this work for me?
Yes. The Producer's Path is genre-agnostic. The system teaches you how to think like a producer: arrangement, tension, movement, finishing. It doesn't teach you how to copy a specific sound. We've had students working in tech house, bass music, ambient, hip-hop, and experimental. The methodology applies to all of it. Fans remember the rules you break.
Can I upgrade to an Annual Membership later?
Absolutely. The Annual Membership ($1,499/year) includes ALL five Producer Dojo courses plus the full TWD library, 128s, community, and everything else. If you start with The Producer's Path and want to go deeper, upgrading is always an option. See the section below for the full breakdown.

The Turning Point

You've Read This Far For A Reason

You've been watching tutorials for months. Maybe years. You've got the sample packs. You've got the plugins. You've got a hard drive full of 8-bar loops that never became songs.

Right now, two versions of the next 90 days are in front of you.

Two Paths · One Choice

Picture yourself three months from today.

Path A · Nothing Changes

Still stuck in the same loop.

You opened your DAW a dozen more times. Started five new projects. Finished none of them.

You bought another sample pack. Watched another tutorial. Told yourself you'd figure it out eventually.

It's 90 days later. You're exactly where you are right now. Just more tired of being here.

Path B · You Take The Path

Finishing tracks you're proud of.

90 days from today, you have a finished track, start to finish, that sounds like you. Not some YouTube tutorial's version of you.

You have a repeatable system that turns loops into songs. You open the DAW knowing what to do next.

You're in a room with ill.Gates and 1,000+ producers who get it. You're not guessing anymore.

The next cohort starts May 2026.
Classes start May 11th.

Miss it and you're waiting until the next round. There are no extensions and no exceptions. When the cohort starts, the door closes.

Start The Producer's Path →

P.S. You're covered by a 30-day money-back guarantee. The only thing you risk by signing up is finally finishing a track. The only thing you risk by not signing up is another 90 days of the same.

So what's it gonna be?
